Phillies: Only Libertarians Protect Your Rights

House bill 2640, also known as the McCarthy Bill*, passed the House
of Representatives in mid-June without hearings, without controversy,
without discussion. Likewise, within the next few days, the bill is
expected to pass unimpeded through the Senate.

In the past, the Republican party has claimed to be the
guardians of Americans rights, particularly the rights of gun
owners, said George Phillies in a forthcoming statement.
But now it finds itself unable or unwilling to challenge
Congressman Carolyn McCarthy's bill and is allowing legislation
by emotion rather than wisdom.

Capitalizing on public concern following the Seung-Hui Cho murders in
April, Congressman McCarthy's bill was fast-tracked through the
House without significant debate.

When we create laws, we do so not just for ourselves but for
our children, the Libertarian candidate added. When we
give away our rights out of fear, when we chip away at the need for
due process or the definition of unreasonable search as this bill
does, we destroy freedom not only for ourselves but for the
generations that follow us.

The bill seeks to extend and reinforce the Brady Bill
intrusions into Americans personal lives, including medical
and psychological histories, to interfere with rights protected by
the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

The GOP is letting this legislation go by
unchallenged, Phillies reiterated. They take donations
and volunteer time from gun owners. They do nothing in return. Only
real Libertarians such as myself actually believe in protecting the
right to keep and bear arms. Gun owners who want to protect their
Second Amendment rights need to support candidates of the only party
that will protect them, the Libertarian party.

Phillies: Inconvenient Rights are Still Rights

“Suspending portions of the fifth amendment, no matter the reason, is unacceptable to every loyal American,” said George Phillies, Libertarian candidate for President. “Especially for someone whose oath of office is to uphold the constitution.”

In an executive order dated July 17*, President Bush provided for the seizure and blockage of property belonging to any person or entity whom the Secretary of the Treasury determines to have committed or “pose a significant risk of committing” an act of violence with the goal of “undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people” or to have aided or funded such persons directly or indirectly.

Critics of this executive order have pointed out the lack of due process. The decision is left to the Secretary of the Treasury in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense. Of equal concern is the vague language defining those whose property can be seized. The definition stretches to include any person who publicly expresses disagreement with the current administration’s policies in Iraq

“This executive order stands as a threat, not only to a citizen’s fifth amendment right not to have his property seized without due process,” Phillies said, “but as an imminent threat to our first amendment rights to freedom of expression and freedom to petition our government for redress of grievances.”

The Libertarian hopeful reminded Americans that law enforcement is required to uphold the Law of the Land, the constitution and the Bill of Rights. He urged his fellow citizens to hold the federal government to just as high a standard. “As Americans, we cannot suspend our Bill of Rights for the sake of expediency or convenience. Inconvenient rights are still rights and must be protected. ”

Phillies Campaign to Nigel Watt: We Request A Retraction

In a Last Free Voice article dated July 25, 2007, Nigel Watt mischaracterized George Phillies’ position on immigration. In a comparison of the Libertarian party candidates, Watt said that Phillies “does not want open borders until all countries are equally prosperous. He also does not want any foreign workers coming to ‘steal our jobs’.”

“This is not the candidate’s position,” said Press Director Carolyn Marbry. ““Watt's claim that Phillies opposes the national party platform is in error. Watt's claim that Phillies says foreign workers will steal our jobs is in error. We request a retraction and a revision of the offending column.“

Earlier this week, the Phillies campaign released an extended statement on the campaign website (http://philles2008.org) and a press release regarding Phillies' actual position on immigration and foreign worker.

In the statement, Phillies said, " I support the Libertarian Party Platform. You cannot have open borders and a large-scale welfare system at the same time. You will go broke. … Someday, the Libertarian message of peace, liberty, and prosperity reach the entire world. All people will then enjoy the freedom and high standard of living we take for granted. In that day, immigration and open borders will be non-issues….”

Phillies’ position on open borders is in exact agreement with the Party Platform, which condemns open borders, saying "A completely open border allows foreign criminals, carriers of communicable diseases, terrorists and other potential threats to enter the country unchecked. Pandering politicians guarantee access to public services for undocumented aliens, to the detriment of those who would enter to work productively, and increasing the burden on taxpayers."

With regard to foreign workers, “ All too often, we hear claims that we must import foreign workers because Americans won't do those jobs. 'Those jobs' in question are hard, physically demanding, outdoor work that require constant, careful attention to detail. Those jobs should be receiving a wage premium, not be barely- minimum-wage sources of employment. There are jobs that Americans won't do, notably in the sciences and engineering; we allow foreigners to come here to study, but then require them to leave. Mr. Bush's foreign guest worker scheme is a corporate welfare deal at the expense of the American worker."

Phillies: Government Has No Role
in a Woman's Right to Choose

In a forthcoming statement to be released by the George Phillies campaign, the Libertarian Presidential hopeful set aside the usual questions of personal ethics and philosophy that plague both sides of the choice/life political debate and cut to the heart of the matter.

"The government has no role in this matter."

Further, Phillies took the opportunity to condemn those who use violence to promote either the pro-choice or pro-life agenda. "People who bomb abortion clinics and churches are criminals who should be brought to justice."

Phillies emphasized that he personally is unequivocally pro-choice. "The government should not force women to bear children they do not want. Nor should it compel women to have abortions. The government should not encourage or discourage one choice over another." Phillies urged that decisions about medical care including pregnancy should be entirely between the patient and her doctors.

At the same time, Phillies recognized that many Americans have ethical objections to abortions and that they are deeply pained that their tax dollars go toward funding abortions. "We should not force opponents of abortion to pay for abortions."

Phillies contrasted his libertarian position with the positions of both his conservative and liberal opponents. "Republicans want Uncle Sam or fifty state governors in your bedroom, judging your private moral decisions. Democrats want the IRS in your bedroom, making you pay for other people's private moral decisions. Only Libertarians respect your privacy in your bedroom."

Phillies Campaign Names New Press Director

Phillies 2008, the Libertarian Presidential Campaign, announced today the appointment of Carolyn Marbry as Press Director. "Marbry will give us a major enhancement of all our electronic campaigns," candidate Phillies said. Ms. Marbry, a California playwright, poet and director whose political writing drew the attention of George Phillies and his campaign staff, sees her role in the campaign as an opportunity to help Phillies and the Libertarian Party make some big changes in Washington, DC.

"So many voters are uncertain," Marbry said. With both major parties pulling to extremes and wanting to strip away freedoms, voters say they're voting AGAINST someone rather than FOR someone. "I want people to vote positively, for a candidate they believe in.

"Now is the time for a return to the old American values of less government with more personal freedom and personal responsibility. In 2008, George Phillies is the man to bring that change to Washington. So I'm very pleased and honored to accept this appointment and to offer my complete and enthusiastic support to George Phillies in his campaign for President."

GEORGE PHILLIES: GOP AND DEMOCRATS FAIL TO ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS, BETRAY AMERICA

Something is wrong with immigration law in America, and presidential candidate George Phillies has a pretty good idea what it is.

Lack of enforcement.

In a statement released Monday night on his campaign website, http://phillies2008.org, the Libertarian Presidential hopeful from Massachusetts went further, saying, " The Democratic and Republican parties have betrayed the American people."

Phillies urged his fellow Americans to welcome legal immigrants warmly: ""Immigrants make enormous positive contributions to our America. They're one reason we are the richest industrial country in the world."

"Immigration," he said, " is undoubtedly a cornerstone of American culture and American success. Legal immigration, that is, under immigration laws that are fairly and consistently administered. That's where our laws have broken down. Our immigration laws are not being applied fairly or consistently."

George Phillies believes Americans have every right to expect their government to enforce existing law. Border security is a growing concern among voters, particularly in the border states, with an estimated 11.1 million illegal immigrants residing in the United States as of 2005, a population that is estimated to grow by about half a million per year or 1,300 per day, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

"Border enforcement is the non-negotiable demand of the great majority of the American people. Open borders? Sealed borders? So long as the Democratic-Republican establishment continues to refuse to enforce the laws they swore to uphold, it doesn't matter what the laws say."

Found a 2008 persidential candidate to support

A good friend of mine was recently appointed as press director for the George Phillies 2008 presidential campaign. I had already heard of George Phillies and had already given much thought to his potential as a presidential candidate. After my friend was given the duties of press director, I thought I would help things along. After all, what are friends for?

There seems to be more and more people in the U.S. that want something better. Instead of voting for someone they have moved toward a mind set of voting against someone. That doesn't seem to make much sense. It's like our choices have become "should I vote for dumb or dumber" and that really shouldn't be the way things are.

George Phillies seems, to me, to be a man that is capable of making proper decisions. Even though he has ideas on how things are and how to address many issues, he is also open to new ideas that might better be used to make a positive difference. That is rare in a nation of politicians that are more about telling us what we need rather than listening to what we say. Freshing, if you ask me.

Along with my own posts I will be posting press releases as I see them for the George Phillies
2008 run. I hope this provides people with the feeling of having a viable alternative to the two big parties that have slowly eroded the politics of our country, The United States of America.

Look back for time to time to get the skinny on what is happening in the campaign.
